Clappies also function like currency, because when you give Clappies, you’re effectively paying for content in the "get-then-pay" fashion – and because you can use them to “buy” Rewards offered by content producers. Additionally, you can trade Clappies among others, as well as trade them-in for cash.
There are two types of Clappies:
The first Clappie you give any unique piece of content, or URL, is always free. This first Clappie is considered a free Clappie and cannot be redeemed for cash. Its purpose is simply to denote your appreciation for that content.
Paid ClappiesAny Clappie you give a specific piece of content beyond the first Clappie you give that content is a paid Clappie. Paid Clappies are those that can be redeemed by content owners for cash.
You can buy Clappies at Clappies.com. The price of a Clappie is set at one penny, however, we charge slightly more or slightly less depending on how many you buy at a time. The price difference is structured to account for the credit card processing fees we must pay on your purchase of Clappies.

There are many ways to give Clappies. The easiest way is to simply paste the Web address, or URL, leading to the content you like on the top of the homepage at Clappies.com
It costs nothing to give Clappies. There is never any processing fee for giving Clappies to anyone on the Clappies network.
You never have to distinguish between giving free and paid Clappies. The Clappies system calculates this automatically.
The first Clappie you give any destination is a free Clappie and every additional is a paid Clappie. For example, if you give content 1 Clappie, you will be giving it one free Clappie. If you give a piece of content 100 Clappies, you will be giving it 1 free Clappie and 99 paid Clappies.
You can acquire paid Clappies in four ways:
You can transfer Clappies to anyone. There is absolutely no cost to transfer Clappies. When you transfer Clappies, there is no public mention of the transfer – doing so is a private transaction.
All paid Clappies can be redeemed for cash. The redemption value ranges from 8/10ths - 9/10ths of a cent, depending on how many you redeem at a time. Currently, we can send the cash to you via PayPal or mail you a check.
